Reading: Students should be focusing on reading and making connections. A good question to ask after your child has read a fiction text is "How did __________ feel when ____________?" Students should practice formulating an answer using APE or RASE depending on what they are using in their classroom.
Writing: We are continuing to work on paragraph writing. We will be using the "Hamburger Model" to have students make an opening sentence, detail sentences and a closing sentence. If you are working on this at home, you could give your child any topic to write a paragraph about. A focus should be placed on adding detailed sentences and editing for correct use of capitals and punctuation.
Math: We will be completing our unit on shapes and working with data collection and graphing. There is a great website in the website section of this site where students can practice using different types of graphs and labeling them properly.
Science: Students will have a plant assessment in the next few weeks. They should focus on the parts and functions of plants, photosynthesis, pollination and plant adaptations. There is a website listed under the websites tab where students can play interactive games and test their plant knowledge with practice quizzes.
Social Studies: Students are continuing to learn about the settlers who came to Upper Canada. Visiting and exploring the website "The Great Upper Canada Pioneer Adventure" is recommended. The link can be found under the websites tab.
